Our chickens

Our hens get (if the restrictions if the bird flu allows it) go free all year round, they have a fenced area with bushes and trees that are about 2000 sqm, and a nice house to sleep and lay eggs in.

They are a mixture of different breeds, including the old British breed "Orpington". Orpington are large, calm and pleasant, lay some eggs (but not as much as a high-class hybrid in the egg industry would) and still have plenty of meat on their bones if one wants to eat them.

Eggs are available for purchase in our small farm shop.

In this video you see part of our potato production - apparently very exciting for hen "Mozart" and her children.

In our garden where we try to increase biodiversity and do not use insecticides or the like, so there are many tasty things to find for a wise little hen.
We usually hatch in the incubating machine or let a hen incubate her own "children". The baby roosters are allowed to grow up with their sisters, but they are slaughtered by us at 5-6 months of age. The hens begin to lay at about that age.

Meat is a by-product for us, both in sheep and in chickens; we have hens mainly for the production of really good eggs. Sometimes we also sell hatchlings or chickens, feel free to write a message if you are interested.
